    January 9: Work time and review of outlines. Remember, no late work will be allowed if you're receiving college credit. Your rough draft is due on FRIDAY.

    Week 1
    January 3: Introduction to the course, in class discussion of persuasion. Notes. No homework.
    January 4: Discussion of persuasive speaking, including picking appropriate topics for your audience, selecting a hook, and developing main points. In class group work (graded): Brainstorm three topics (one political/economic, one sports/entertainment, one of your choice) and develop a hook and three main points.
    January 5: time for research for the commentary speech. Handout on the requirements for the speech: Commentary Speech
    January 6: time for research for the commentary speech. Topic due by the end of class.
